JCMS AVID Students spread Christmas Cheer at Valley View

Advancement Via Individual Determination, or AVID, is an elective course at JCMS for 7th and 8th grade students.  The course is designed to prepare students for college and careers through a variety of lessons and methods.

One important aspect of the AVID course is community service.  Students are taught the importance of supporting their communities in many ways.  Students in AVID are encouraged to volunteer their time and efforts to organizations and causes within their communities.

This holiday season, AVID students used the opportunity to volunteer their time to bring Christmas cheer to residents at Valley View Senior Life.  Students created a wide range of activities to they could do with senior citizens that live at Valley View.

JCMS students spent time with residents and participated in activities, such as baking cookies, making sock snowmen, and playing board games.  The residents enjoyed the youthful energy the students brought and enjoyed the interaction with the fellow residents and students.  The students learned the value of their time and efforts, and the importance of volunteering within their communities.

Way to go AVID students!
