Wrestling
We are extremely excited to begin the 2022 Wildcat wrestling season. We hope you are excited to get back in the gyms and on the mat for what will hopefully be a great season for your athletes. The following letter will let you know some of the expectations we coaches have from you as parents and your athletes. After reading this entire letter, please sign and return it to Coach Laughlin. Once again, thank you for your great support and thank your athletes for taking on this exciting and tough sport.

GRADES
Your athletes must remember that they are students first. Wrestling at JCMS comes second to classroom work. There will be periodic grade checks done with all athletes. Here is our grade policy for the upcoming season. Please remind your student that we have to excel in the classrooms before we can excel on the mat.
- 1st week with an F: 1 week probation. This means that they can practice and they can play, but they are on a “watch/warning list”. Make sure this is communicated to them.
- 2nd week with an F: They can practice but they cannot travel/play. They are only on the practice team only. Warn them of step 3.
- 3rd week with an F: They are no longer on the team. They have two options at this point: walk away from the team or you require them to attend the wrestling practice and work on all missing work the entire practice and/or get tutoring instead of practicing and if they get grades up they can return to level 2.
PRACTICES
Practices will run from 3:00-4:45. We would like parents to pick up their athletes by 5:00. If you cannot pick up your wrestler at that time please make other arrangements. Failure by the parent/guardian to pick up their athlete by this time will result in the following procedures:
1st Time…………………………………………..Warning
2nd Time…………………………………………..Call from Coach Laughlin
3rd Time……………………………………………Miss match
4 or More…………………………………………Possible dismissal from team
All athletes are expected at practice every day. Unexcused absence from practice will be dealt with using the following procedures:
1st Time……………………………………………………Practice Make up with Coach Laughlin
2nd Time…………………………………………………..Miss the next match/meet
3rd Time……………………………………………………Dismissal from team
If your athlete is at school they are expected at practice, if they are excused from practice they need to present a letter from the parent/guardian to Coach Laughlin the next day.
Meet Procedures
Home Meets
We do have home meets scheduled this year and expect the students help both setting up and tearing down. We will meet early and set mats up and ALL wrestlers are expected to stay after the meet and help roll up mats and clean up gyms. This can be done rather quickly if we get 100% help and the athletes are not messing around.
Away Meets
Parents who wish to take their wrestlers with them after an away meet must have a letter to JCMS office 24 hours prior to the event. As coaches we will not be allowed to let you take your athletes without this letter.
Behavior Expectations
This is the part I do not want to deal with. As a wrestler on the JCMS team expectations are high. As a coaching staff we do not want to deal with behavior referrals during the season. If you are an athlete who has a problem with classes and doing what you are supposed to do here are the consequences.
1st Offense—Extra reminders after practice with Coach Laughlin
2nd Offense—Parent contact from Coach and extra work as a reminder of school procedures
3rd Offense—Miss next meet. Last meeting with Coach Laughlin
MORE THAN THAT….HANG UP THE HAT—Dismissal from team.
Any referral on Match/Meet day could result in the athlete missing that day of competition.
Thank you for allowing your student to participate on this year’s wrestling team. As a coaching staff we will do our best to assist your students in the classroom and on the mat. We are expecting great things from the athletes.
